  29. only the cost of the materials included with the Beta II
  30. software, and does not apply to the finished product.  >No upgrade

  71. Before October 15, 1991, trade up from IBM Displaywrite,
  72. Manuscript, Microsoft Word, Multimate, Officewriter, Samna Word,
  73. Wordstar, or Xywrite for DOS to WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS for
  74. $150.US/$195.CN.  The trade-up packages are available through
  75. distribution.

  101. A:  Qualified schools can trade up eight existing WP5.1 licenses
  102. to eight WPWin licenses for $99.US/$129.CN.  They will receive
  103. eight templates, eight licenses, and one set of disks and
  104. documentation.  They may not update one license and receive 7
  105. additional licenses

  107. Q:  Can I trade up to WPWin, and give away my DOS WordPerfect?

  109. A:  The license with the trade-up packages gives the users
  110. license to run both DOS WordPerfect and WPWin on the same
  111. machine.  The license for either product may not be transferred
  112. to another person.  The customer will, however, be allowed to
  113. trade-up both the DOS WordPerfect and WPWin to future releases of
  114. either WordPerfect for DOS or Windows.  Complete packages of
  115. software no longer needed by customers may be donated through the
  116. school donation program to a school of their choice.

  119. Q: Are WPWin files, keystrokes, merge language, macros, and
  120. graphic file formats compatible with WP5.1 and earlier versions?

  123. File compatibility
  124. WPWin files are 100% compatible with WP5.1 files.  No conversion
  125. is necessary.  There are some additions to the function list and
  126. the .SET file that will be documented.

  128. Keystroke compatibility
  129. To comply with CUA (Common User Access) standards set for the
  130. Windows environment, some WordPerfect for DOS keystrokes have
  131. been changed in WPWin (use F1 for Help, press Cancel to Escape). 
  132. Cursor keystrokes are also different in the Windows environment. 
  133. However, WPWin users will have the option of choosing a separate
  134. keyboard that will perform, for the most part, the same as the
  135. DOS WP5.1 keyboard.

  137. Merge Language
  138. The WPWin Merge language is the same as WP5.1, and merge files
  139. created in WP5.1 for DOS may be used in WPWin with no need for
  140. file conversion.

  142. WP5.1 Macros
  143. A conversion utility will be shipped with WPWin that may aid in
  144. the conversion of some WP5.1 macros.  However, Macro Convert only
  145. works with WP5.1 macros.

  147. Graphic file formats
  148. WPWin will support the same graphic file formats as DOS WP5.1 as
  149. well as Windows metafile and bitmap graphics.  In addition, the
  150. WPWin File Viewer can view all the graphics formats that are
  151. supported.

  154. Q:  What is the Button Bar?
  155.  
  156. A:  The Button Bar is a horizontal or vertical row of buttons
  157. representing menu items or macros.  The Button Bar is a powerful,
  158. easy-to-use feature which enables quick access to commonly used
  159. features.  Simply point to the button and click with your mouse
  160. to execute a commonly used function, such as bold.

  162. Q:  What is the limit to the number of buttons per Button Bar?
  163.  
  164. A:  There is no limit.  As the buttons fill up the screen space,
  165. a scroll bar appears.  More buttons can be added, and entire
  166. button bars saved.  You can have as many buttons as you want on a
  167. single Button Bar, and you can have as many different Button Bars
  168. as you can create.

  170. Q:  Am I able to create icons for the Button Bar?
  171.  
  172. A:  No.  When you choose a function such as "italics" a pre-
  173. assigned icon will be displayed on the button.  Macros assigned
  174. to buttons are distinguished by the name that the user assigns to
  175. the macro.

  178. Mouse vs. Keyboard
  179.  
  180. Q:  Do I have to use a mouse to use WPWin effectively?
  181.  
  182. A:  Most of what you do with a mouse, can also be done with the
  183. keyboard.  In some cases, the keyboard process may be very
  184. different.
  185.  
  186. If you primarily use the keyboard to input text, you can access
  187. features quickly and easily with mnemonics or shortcut keys.  A
  188. shortcut key can be a single keystroke or keystroke combination. 
  189. For instance, pressing Ctrl-B for Bold, Ctrl-U for Underline, or
  190. Ctrl-P for Print is easier than reaching for the mouse.  It may
  191. also be easier for you to tab in dialog boxes, instead of
  192. clicking with the mouse.

  194. Although some functions may be accessed more easily from the
  195. keyboard, using the mouse allows you to take full advantage of
  196. the Windows environment.  You can use a mouse to move and size
  197. windows, move and restore icons, select text, and choose commands
  198. from menus and dialog boxes.

  200. Using a mouse, you can drag graphics to a new location.  However,
  201. with the keyboard, you would first need to open a dialog box,
  202. then type the exact location where you want the graphic to appear
  203. on the page.

  205. You can quickly access desired functions with either a click of a
  206. mouse or the touch of a key.  WPWin will provide a smooth step
  207. into the Windows world for DOS WordPerfect users.

  210. DDE vs. Spreadsheet Links
  211.  
  212. Q:  What is the difference between a DDE Link and a Spreadsheet
  213. link?
  214.  
  215. A:
  216. DDE Link

  218. Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) allows any type of linked data (text,
  219. tables, graphs, etc.) to be imported from Windows applications
  220. that support DDE into a WPWin document.  For example, you can
  221. dynamically link information from a spreadsheet file into a
  222. newsletter, providing both files are open.   As the spreadsheet
  223. information is edited, it can be updated either automatically or
  224. manually on screen in the WPWin newsletter.

  226. DDE links are sometimes referred to as "hot links" because when
  227. data is changed in one linked file (the server), the option is
  228. available to have it immediately updated in the other file (the
  229. client).  
  230.  
  231. In the initial release, WPWin will act as a client (receiver)
  232. only, and not as a server (source) of DDE linked information.

  235. Spreadsheet Link
  236.  
  237. The Spreadsheet Import and Link features of WPWin can import
  238. files from PlanPerfect, Lotus 1-2-3, Microsoft Excel, Quattro,
  239. and Quattro Pro into a WPWin document.

  241. A spreadsheet import copies information from the spreadsheet file
  242. one time only.  A spreadsheet link can update the imported
  243. information as often as necessary in the WPWin document to
  244. reflect changes made in the spreadsheet file.

  246. During updates of the WPWin file, the source document is on disk
  247. rather than running in a separate window as with a DDE Link.

  249. Data in both Spreadsheet and DDE Links can be updated
  250. automatically or manually.

  284.  
  285. Q:  Can the fonts that come with DrawPerfect be used in WPWin?
  286.  
  287. A:  DrawPerfect fonts can be used in WPWin the same way they are
  288. used in WP for DOS by importing them as a graphic and printing
  289. them with DrawPerfect's WP.DRS file.  However, DrawPerfect fonts
  290. will not be accessible from the font list within a WPWin
  291. document.

  293. Q:  Will any fonts ship with WPWin?
  294.  
  295. A:  No, but Microsoft Windows does include fonts.  With a WP
  296. printer driver selected, the font list in WPWin is the same as
  297. the font list in DOS WP 5.1 with the same printer selected.  With
  298. a Windows printer driver selected, the base font list will
  299. include the fonts that come with the Windows driver, plus any
  300. fonts that have been loaded into the Windows system.

  302. Q:  Will WPWin support Bitstream Fontware 3.0?
  303.  
  304. A:  Yes.  Fontware 3.0 is supported using DOS WP 5.1 printer
  305. drivers.  When Fontware fonts have been installed into a WP 5.1
  306. printer driver, they work just like any other software soft font.
  307.  
  308. WPWin will also support Adobe Type Manager, Facelift for Windows,
  309. Intellifont for Windows, and other third-party fonts that can be
  310. installed into the Windows system.  The user must select a
  311. Windows printer driver to print these third-party fonts.

  313. Note:  WPWin users have the option of printing with the DOS WP
  314. 5.1 drivers or the Windows system drivers.  DOS WP 5.1 fonts can
  315. be accessed in WPWin using the DOS WP 5.1 printer drivers, and
  316. Windows font products can be accessed using Windows system
  317. drivers.  Exception:  Facelift for DOS cannot be used in Windows
  318. (with either DOS or Windows drivers), because Facelift for DOS
  319. requires a TSR which cannot be executed under Windows.
